How the Program Works

The Self-Connection Psychotherapy Certification Training Program consists of three courses, each 81 hours over 9 months. This course requires twice as many hours of workshops than the Training Program. The added hours means that each trainee receives more supervision of actual cases and role plays of therapy. Students enroll in each course sequentially and all courses must be completed to obtain Certification.

  • Year 1 — Basic Concepts

In Year 1 (the first 9 months) you begin to learn the basics and key elements. You learn how to use your own image and help your patients/clients make use of their images.

  • Year 2 — Advanced Concepts and Skill Consolidation

Year 2 (the second 9 months) is all about moving the bar. The structure of this phase focuses on the challenges that arise during the course of therapy, such as counter-transference and resistance.

  • Year 3 — Specialized Treatment Skills

Year 3 (the third 9 months) is designed to help trainees consolidate and refine the skills learned during the first two phases. The structure of this phase is determined by the strengths and interests of the participants.

  • Year 4 — Masterclass (Optional)

Phase 4 consists of a Masterclass on Supervision and Training.

Time Commitment

Students are expected to attend two two-hour workshops per month. These will focus on didactic material, experiential exercises, and plenty of guided practice. Between sessions, students will be required to practice techniques learned in the experiential exercises and guided practice — The first type of practice period (performed alone) focuses on learning the techniques and should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, repeated four to six times after each workshop. The second type of practice period (in session) will be used to record 5-10 minutes of work with clients/patents using Self-Connection Psychotherapy. Students will be required to present this clip for supervision in the next workshop.
